Description

The thermal desorption plant with a capacity of 10 tons/hour of soil to treat, SDT-10M type, is designed to clean up the soils contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons.
     A thermal desorption plant is used in areas with soils contaminated with hydrocarbons, around crude oil refineries, crude oil storage pits, etc. It is recommended to locate the plant near areas that are meant to be decontaminated.
    It is equipped with all the necessary subassemblies needed during the automated and semi-automated operation, ensuring total cleaning of the infested soils through the use of reliable and highly competitive electronic equipments. The STD-10M is a modular equipment, easy to transport to a new location, without any special foundation required.

The high temperature thermal desorption process (HTTD) has the following operations:


• Feeding  the dryer with the solid compound depending on the grain size, moisture and T.P.H.
• Direct fired hydrocarbon desorption at a temperature of 450°C
• Dust separation into a two cyclon group.
• Treated solid soil cooling. 
• Desorbed hydrocarbons oxidation at over 850°C
• Gas cooling under 160°C for filtering.
• Hot gas filtering.
• Treated gas exhaust in the atmosphere with permanent control and registration of the parameters.

The contaminated soil is taken out of the feed bin with an extractor belt and transported into the desorber using the two helical conveyors. On the inclined belt there is fixed a magnet separator that stops the metallic parts found in the soil.

The desorption unit is a rotary dryer. Inside the unit the polluted materials are heated to 450°C so that the hydrocarbons are exhausted due to volatilization. Hot soil temperature is monitored at the exit of the desorber. 

Treated soil is exhausted by a helical conveyor, water cooled in the cooling soil system, evacuated with a 10m long belt at 110°C and discharged in trucks or a deposit space.

After desorption resulted gases and water gases containing dust pass through the cyclone group. Collected dust is delivered by the cyclons helical conveyor system into the first third part of the desorption unit.

The gas oxidation chamber is a direct-fired oxidizer that has the advantage of taking over a greater variation of VOC concentrations (volatile organic compound) up to 40% of LEL (lower explosion limit) for short terms with excess fuel consumption. In the oxidation chamber gases are heated at 850°C° and oxidized.

The solid particles are taken out of the oxidizer by a helical conveyor system and discharged in the collector helical conveyor.

The gases that exhaust out of the oxidation chamber are cooled in two phases through the heat exchangers and at a maximum temperature of 160-180°C.

The shake bag dust is taken by the helical conveyor system into the collector helical conveyor that delivers the treated soil. 
The fan assures the depression of the whole system. Gases are exhausted through the stack.

In the control house the operator does the initial system adjustments. Afterwards the computer takes control of the plant, leaving the operator to supervise.

Direct-contact thermal desorption technology is also valid for the soil decontamination of toxic substances coming from pesticides such as HCH, DDT, DDE as well as PCB-s, BTEX and metals like arsenic and mercury.


Thus the thermal desorption plant, type STD-10M can pe upgraded in order to perform such operations at full capacity and environmentally safe.
